Antique Federal Period Convex Mirror, Bulls Eye Mirror, Girandole, Gilt Wood, Hand Carved, 13 Colonies, Americana
$768.00
This is a Federal period mirror with one of the most recognizable symbols of the United States gracing the top - the eagle. Eagles were depicted on European furniture and home decor during England's Regency period before America adopted the style. During the Federal period, mirrors featured rounded/convex glass with American symbols and finials added to the wooden frames.
One eagle with olive branches act as the finial/carved pediment and more branches on the bottom. Thirteen balls were placed around the circumference of the frame representing the original thirteen colonies, though one is missing.
If mirrors could speak, this mirror would have a wonderful story to tell. Having been well loved through the years, this historical piece brought sophistication to every home it was hung. And, as the previous owners aged, so did this piece of American history. Everything appears to be original, including the convex mirror. Please see photos for details.
This desirable piece is ready to be displayed or you can have it restored to its original state.
